The Jenny Tree

The Jenny Tree.  That's why we are all here, right? Grab a cup of tea or coffee and I'll tell you a story... Are you ready?
When I was a little girl my dad loved oak trees.  So the adventure began off hunting for acorns.  Taking rides on his motorcycle we picked them up at the school, parks, and other random places.   Only the best ones ... making sure they aren't too green, cracked, worn from the weather, or a former squirrel snack.  They must be just right for the picking.  Soon enough we started planting them.  The ones that sprouted and started to show life eventually move up to "coffee can" status.  To be honest I'm not sure what happened to all of these potential oak trees, we lived in an apartment at the time.  One very special acorn became a gift.
I wanted to give a coffee can plant to my Aunt Sally for Christmas.  I remember it so well.  I tried to make it pretty with a ribbon and even included a handmade bookmark.  The little oak found its new home in the country.  I went to visit at the country home one summer and found myself somehow connected to the tree. I would find a chair, pull up next to it.  Read my Bible, read whatever I had, eat a picnic lunch & yes I talked to the tree.  Even though it was surrounded with fencing to protect it from the cows or someone mowing it over with the tractor, we became friends and the tree held some of my heart and soul.  Before I had  left it had a name, The Jenny Tree!
I watched this Oak grow over the years.  It has survived hurricanes, and weathered many storms.  Just as I have in my own life.
At the age of 32 years the love of my life proposed to me.  The planning began and with a lot of help we made it happen.  This tree, this place, and the two people who have nourished it are all so special to me.  Just a few short months later we said our vows under The Jenny Tree.  October 9th, 2010 was one of the most amazing moments of my life with my Groom, closest family & friends, and my favorite tree.
In just a few days we are celebrating year #4 :)  It's been a while since I've told the story and it brings joy to my heart!!! <3. From the acorn seed to the mighty oak tree, love lives here.  Isaiah 61:3 "So they will be called oaks of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."

December Daily Simple Setup + Giveaway

December Daily Simple Setup + Giveaway

I have never put together a December Daily.  This is a first shot for me.  So I had to really sit down and think about what I wanted to accomplish with this.  I want my family to know why we celebrate Christmas, what are the traditions that we have, tell the funny stories, and recall important Scriptures & Prayers for the birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior.
So my thought process is that if I set up my December Daily now, I have no reason to procrastinate later ~ Right?  Well I am sure I will find excuses and reasons to justify why I am behind, but that is on me.  I have decided that I will not put on the pressure for 1 picture every single day or that the photo be in order, for that matter.  I have one card for journaling, one card for the date #1 – 25, and one spot open for a photo.  On a side note, I will included these pages in my regular Project Life album, and will not be making it seperate.
For a couple of weeks I have been brainstorming on how to make this flow with ease.  So I started with my stash, gathering Christmas-themed papers and rummaging through my washi tape.  Here is a photo of what I came up:  Baseball Trading Card pocket pages purchased from Target (cards will need to be 2 ½”  x 3 ½”) a great deal $4.99 for 35 pages!, 25+ of Becky Higgins grid cards, a stack of my random Christmas papers already cut down to 4x6 size, corner rounder, washi tape & the piece that made this project super easy was  Sleigh Ride vellum tags & numbers from Crate Paper.  These vellum pieces were gifted to me earlier in the year & so I have 2 sets!  One which I will be giving away!  Yes, a GIVEAWAY!!!  More on that later ...

Next is the most timely step.  Cutting, trimming, and rounding corners.  I took 25 of Becky Higgins grid cards and trimmed them down to the size that would fit in the pocket pages 2 ½ “x 3 ½ “ and then rounded all those corners.  My corner rounder doesn’t match up perfectly, but it does the trick with a pretty decent outcome.  I wanted to have my pattern papers matted, so with the white cardstock cut strips of 2 ½ “and then cut the 3 ½ “mark to finish off the card… back to rounding all corners.  And finally the Christmas-themed pattern papers, I cut to size 2” x3” and again rounding corners.  I put away my paper trimmer & corner rounder at this point I wouldn’t be needing it again.
The fun part for me was coordinating the papers in the order I wanted them to go.  The papers I used for the December Daily I really don’t even know the brand names anymore.  Because they have been hanging around so long, recently I went and cut all of the 12x12 papers into 4x6 size.  So they were super easy to grab my stack & select a few favorites.  Next I placed each vellum number circle on the pattern paper attaching with a piece of washi tape. Then I glued down the pattern paper on to the white cardstock, for a nice finished look.

I placed them in the pocket pages & there ya go… now we are just waiting for Christmas to fill in our memories & photos.  There are still a couple of things I might add at a later time for embellishing.  I might include some stitching, sequins & I would really like to distress all the edges of the cards with ink.  But thats only if I make the time!  You get out of it what you put in to it, every time ~

One more thing to help with the process as the Christmas season approaches, I am creating a prompt list.  This will help with the journaling ideas & prompts for photos.  I will blog about this in a couple of weeks so follow me & maybe I’ll share a cute printable of my prompts.
So the giveaway…. I know you are excited!  I will be giving away one package of the Sleigh Ride Vellum Tags & Numbers!!!  + a couple of extras.  Leave a comment below & tell me of your favorite Christmas season memory or tradition.  Merry Christmas in July!  I will draw a random winner on Wednesday, July 31, 2013.

Thank you for reading!  Now you may continue with your Summer!!!   :)

Summer Has Begun!

Summer is here in Houston!  And we are making tons and tons of memories.... so much that I don't have time to put it into Project Life just yet.  So with that being said I won't be sharing a layout today.  The awesome thing is about that is that I don't feel the pressure, not in a lazy kind of way.  Knowing that through these moments I am taking lots of pictures & lots of notes.  I am posting a lot on Facebook and thats keeping me on track also!  We have been swimming, fishing at the park with family, decorating for vbs, roller skating, Houston Symphony FREE concert, pottery painting and more to go!  Our "Summer Bucket List" keeps growing and what we don't mark off this year, will be added for next year!
Through these moment my desire is to not only keep the kids busy so I can keep my sanity, but truly so they have special memories of their summer time and so i can get to know these little people that God has given me the privlage to be part of!

A few photos that will definitely appear in my PL through out the summer:

PL Light Bulb

In the life of my scrapbooking timeline I have never been intentional about MY scrapbooks.  I have taken a class here or taken a class there or grabbed random ideas from random places... I am a pretty random kind of person.
In 2012 I completed my very first Project Life album and was incredibly excited to have something to call our Henrichs Family Album Vol. 1!   I knew there was still so much to learn.  I attempted by diggin into "inspiration" on Pinterest, a lost cause of pin, pin, and more pins!  I would "pin" away a whole hour of my life but i didn't make it intentional at all.  All those pretty pages I never went back to really look at again or read the blogs and about the person who created them.  The obsession grew into more products on my shelf and more unfinished pages.
A little over a month ago I was invited to take a class being instructed and hosted by my dear friend Lisa Wilkinson at Where Chaos Meets Creativity.  I really didn't know what to expect. I thought I would learn some new cool techniques, find out about some cool new products and continue with my basic style of Project Life.  2 out of 3... not too bad!  However sometimes when your LIGHT BULB goes off you cannot deny the fact that some things have got to change!
So what has changed since I have taken Project Life Class One 2013?  I have an intentional reason for preserving memories ~ to share my love for my family, to share my faith with others, and create something I love!  I have a purpose for all this paper, glue, and scissors (don't forget my favorite Tiny Attacher!)  There is a flow to my work now and it is amazing how my layouts are coming together with a little more thought & color coordination!

So I am going to skip ahead to Week 14 in sharing pages with you... Yes, the others matter but this particular page is when I found my groove  :)

Overview of Page 2 from Week 14:

Love this photo:  I enlarged it to an 8x10 and cut it down to fit in these 2 pockets

A collage to remember some fun things about the day

 Journal and Make It Meaningful!

Another collage to remember these fun times!

This was a 4x6 promo card I was given before we even registered for the event... it was the final touch!

So with all this being said there are certain steps I have had to take to come to this point of being productive and intentional about what I am putting into my pages.  Note***  I am not by any means claiming to be "caught up"  oh no!  But I dont feel the pressure either  :)  I am not sure what it might be for you - it could be taking a class, it could be following just a handful of blogs instead of 50 blogs...
What ever it is that is important to you... make it a memory and preserve it!
Thank you for checking out my blog & listening to my thoughts!
Leave comments!  Love hearing from you!

Take Two

OK, so I am really wanting to write more ~ most of it is babble and for the sake of me talking... but eventually want this to have more meaning.  When I started this blog back in November I gave it a "no pressure" outlook, obviously I took that way too seriously.
I want to begin sharing my progress on my Project Life albums ... yes, more than one.  One for our family, one for my son, and one for baby girl.  Its all a work in progress and just like anything else you have to start somwhere.  For now that somewhere is here!  I will begin sharing at the start of 2013 Week 3 and work my way along from there.  When I look back through I see ah-ha moments to go back and add in some extra detail or journaling... so you may see some duplicates from time to time to show what i have added ~ comments/suggestions are welcome ~

Welcome 2013

It's a brand new year!  Welcome 2013!
I didn't make resolutions for the year.  When I have made resolutions in the past I feel like I am setting myself up for failure, what a horrible feeling!!  Ugh!  Instead I set my pace and think about some things I would like to accomplish ~ such as getting this blog on a roll!  See it's already January 17th and I am obviously not feeling the pressure at all  :)
In 2012 I began to change my "scrapbooking style".  I have been following Becky Higgins off and on for many years.  I had no idea that her system would become my style in my very own kind of way!  And to top it off I received a bonus at the end of the year:  A sense of accomplishment and purpose in my Project Life album!!!  I don't purchase her exact products eventhough I will be using pieces of her Colbalt Collection with a whole lot of my hodge podge of papers, stickers and embellies.
To learn more about Becky Higgins watch this awesome video:  Project Life
So to welcome in the new year once more... here is the start of the Henrichs Project Life 2013!

Peace & Quiet

There is quiet in the house with a little bit of peace @ the moment.
This weekend I will begin scrubbing floors and preparing for the birthday party of my soon-to-be 7 year old.  Can't believe how far we have come ~

Today I am so thankful that God RESTORES relationships.  There will be no details spoken of this today~ but His Glory amazes me on how He can place 2 or more people back together through His love.  I love my sister & brother-in-law through the good & the bad.

i love these two crazy birds  :)
